Once Computers go connected to the internet, it was realized that now something was needed that allow people to fetch and browse the information that was put on the connected computers. A software was needed and this lead to the creation of Web Browsers. Browsing literally means to search something on a computer. Fast and effective browsing, lead to the creation of new browsers, which are very efficient.

The Top 3 Web Browsers are:
Internet Explorer:
Internet Explorer is the most common browsers among users and has a market share of almost 75%. It was one of the first browsing softwares created by Microsoft and has undergone several improvements. Presently, Microsoft is offering IE version 7. However IE8 beta 1 is also released and IE8 Beta2 is expected in August 2008.

Firefox:
Firefox is the brand of Mozilla and is the only browser that is nearly comparable with IE. It has the ability to browse faster than IE and still maintain a tight security. With many plugins and addons to customize Firefox, it is the best browser in the world! I would highly recommend everyone to give Firefox a try

Opera:
Opera’s tagline goes as “Your web everywhere”. Opera has the advantage that it can run on many platforms i.e. Windows, Linux, Mac OS to mobile phones. Opera is the 2nd most popular web browser. One of the best invention that they have made is Opera Mobile. Opera Mobile works on any phone with Java and I highly recommend everyone to install Opera Mobile into your mobile phones.

Cryptography has Greek origins. It is a combination of two Greek words, “krupto and graph”, which means secrets and writing respectively. It is a technology which converts stream of texts into coded form in such a way that only the originator and receiver of the coded text can decode the text. Cryptography plays a very important role in internet based commercial activities as many secret documents which include payment details, money transfer and other confidential information are to be transferred from one computer to another.

Cryptography came into being living in the first world war when military messages used to be encrypted and then send to the recipients. In encryption, the basic approach is “shifting by three methods”. Cryptography is a technique which allows a piece of information to be converted in t cryptic form before being stored in the computer database. It is primarily used to protect the confidentiality of information from an intruder.

Here are a few free online encryption tools that may interest you:

It might happen to any of you that you have lost or forgotten the password which was there to protect the computer. This possibility is always acknowledged by the windows system and options are designed to retrieve the passwords easily. Some people try the options of running another system on the computer and use it to change the lost passwords. But this does not work well most of the time. The passport network is another option to be used to change computer passwords. The Linux boot disks with NTFS software often help you to change passwords.

A Firewall is commonly used to protect a network from the outside world against any unauthorized to the network. Interestingly, term ‘Firewall’ actually got its name from a construction industry where a protection mechanism was deployed in building against fire hazards.

Firewall protects the network of the organization from unauthorized users in such a way that only authorized users in the outside world may access the software and hardware resources of the organization.

Firewalls are basically a software that is placed on the gateway to protect from unauthorized users. It is usually done by placing a dedicated computers at the gateway which verify the authenticity of various users. So, firewall is also known as secure internet gateway.

Firewall is a system which has a collection of devices, computers softwares routers hosts or collection of hosts. It works by screening the message packets that are passed through the gateway for the purpose of accessing the internal network.

There are lots of paid and free firewall available. Most internet security suit comes with a firewall. Some good free firewall are Comodo Firewall, Zone Alarm Firewall. However there are also a few good paid firewall softwares available such as Kaspersky Firewall, Norton Firewall etc.

Authenticity is required everywhere; authentication means to verify the identity of a sender. Authentication technique tries to verify that the message is coming from an authentic sender rather than from an imposter. Digital signature is a method device for the purpose of authentication of an object. It is based on public key encryption or decryption. Digital signature is similar to that of signing transaction documents when we deal with a bank.

To withdraw a large sum of money from a bank, you need to fill a withdrawal form and sign it and the bank keeps the signed form on record to show when a question about authorization is raised.

In network transactions, you cannot personally sign the request for withdrawal. However, an equivalent of an electronic or digital signature is created.

In Digital signature, a secret key encryption key is kept by the customer, while the corresponding public key is issued by the bank. The customer uses one public and one secret key while the bank uses one secret key and one public key.

Thus, Digital Signature is a technology used for protecting people from getting cheated on network transactions.
